At some point, in the 80's, tons of manufacturers seized an opportunity to build their own computers. Not too many survived, but at the time you had a large choice of much different computers. I like Apple, but it was way to expensive. So I decided to get an MPF-II instead. It was a clone and since I didn't know the Apple ][ so well, it was more than enough for me. Later, when I got my own Apple //c, I could tell that this clone was really not much of a clone! But I still got to learn the 6502 processor and rudimentary BASIC (you were very limited with BASIC on the MPF-II and I could not save anything in permanent storage so it was annoying all around.)
